More than 530 Palestinian families have been forced from their homes in Hebron during a citywide Israeli lockdown. Residents say soldiers have assaulted people who tried to return for essential belongings or medication.

More than 530 Palestinian families have been forced from their homes in Hebron in the occupied West Bank during a citywide lockdown by Israeli forces, Al Jazeera has reported.

The displaced people include more than 1,000 children and 200 toddlers, while residents say Israeli soldiers have assaulted people attempting to return for essential belongings or medication.

The lockdown began last week after brothers Ahmad and Hammouda al-Jaabeh killed two Israeli soldiers and wounded three others near a military checkpoint. The brothers were killed after carrying out an attack on 23 October 23.

On Friday, Israeli troops demolished their homes, after surrounding the buildings since the morning and sealing off the area.
