The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York to discuss maritime freedom in the Strait of Hormuz. Kallas emphasized that there should be no tolls or fees for passage through the waterway, both before and after the conflict.
The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss free maritime passage in the Strait of Hormuz.
“There were no tolls or fees for passage before the war, and there should be none after the war,” Kallas said on X, describing their discussions held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.
“Navigation must be free and unimpeded, both in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.”
The EU foreign policy chief also said she raised the issue of “domestic repression inside Iran, including the sharp rise in executions and death sentences”.
