Iran's Central Bank governor said Tehran injected $2 billion into the foreign currency market to signal to the Trump administration that Iran has no shortage of hard currency. However, the figures reveal a 12 percent decline in foreign exchange reserves compared to the same period last year.
Iran’s Central Bank says Tehran supplied $2bn in foreign currency to the market, saying that the country has no shortage of foreign exchange, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported.
“The reason we provided $2bn in foreign currency for the market was to make Trump and his Treasury secretary understand that we have no problem providing foreign currency,” the Central Bank governor Abdolnaser Hemmati said.
Hemmati said Iran had supplied about $24.9bn in foreign currency by early October, down about 12 percent from $28bn during the same period last year.
