Yemeni forces claim 97 attacks against Houthi positions
Yemeni government-aligned forces say they have carried out 97 “precision targeting operations” against the Houthis on the Al-Tawwahi front in the Lahij and Taiz provinces.
Brigadier General Majid Abdullah Al-Nuzaili, spokesman for the Yemeni military, said the operations used aircraft, drones, artillery, missiles and snipers.
In a post on X, he said they resulted in “neutralizing (260) elements of the militia” and destroyed or damaged military vehicles, as well as transport and supply vehicles.
The announcement came hours after he said government-aligned forces had carried out 257 attacks against the Houthis using planes, drones, artillery, missiles and rockets, in Sanaa, Midi, Baqim, al-Jawf, Marib, Al Bayda, Lahij and Taiz. He said those attacks killed at least 700 fighters.
Al Jazeera could not verify the battlefield claims.

Medvedev says Russia ready to mediate between US and Iran
Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, has been speaking to Iranian media about the US and Israel’s war on Iran.
He said Russia is ready to act as a mediator between the US and Iran to end the war and that Moscow would never sacrifice its relationship with Tehran.
Medvedev also said:
+ Relations between Iran and Russia are at an “unprecedented level”, and trade between the two countries increased by 20 percent last year. + Russia and Iran face extensive sanctions and must seek other mechanisms on financial cooperation. About 90 percent of trade between Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states is conducted in national currencies. + The planned Rasht-Astara railway, which will link the Iranian city of Rasht to Astara on the border with Azerbaijan, will be transformational. The project, financed by Russia and Iran, is key to the International North-South Transport Corridor that connects Europe and Russia to the Gulf and India via Azerbaijan and Iran. + Russia has plans to build a new nuclear power plant in Iran in addition to the Bushehr facility. + Iran plays a key role in ensuring security in the Strait of Hormuz. * 39m ago

Palestinian children released from Israeli detention emerge ‘destroyed’
Ayed Abu Eqtaish, the director of the SEYAJ Organization for Child Protection, says psychological “resources are very limited” for Palestinian children arrested by the Israeli military.
More than 350 Palestinian minors are held in Israeli detention centres or military prisons. About half are arrested without charge.
“It’s a terrifying experience to be arrested, interrogated and ill-treated and incarcerated inside Israeli prisons,” Eqtaish told Al Jazeera. “So almost every child who is arrested by the Israeli military will be psychologically affected.”
The “needs are huge,” he said, but the “resources are very limited”.
Eqtaish said the treatment of Palestinians in Israeli prisons has significantly worsened since October 2023, with children released from detention coming out “destroyed”.
He cited a fellow psychologist who had said that “before October 2023, our role was to let children step on the ground”, but now, “our role is to extract them from beneath the ground”.
“I believe that every child is in need for psychological support, but there is no programme in order to meet these needs,” he added.

Houthis claim attack on Saudi oil facility near Riyadh
Yemen’s Houthis say they have attacked a major oil facility in Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles and drones.
The claim came after flames and a large plume of smoke were seen rising from the Aramco refinery on Saturday, and firefighters tackled the blaze.
There was no immediate statement from Saudi authorities or Aramco on the cause of the fire.
Yahya Saree, the Houthi spokesman, said in a post on X that the attacks caused fires at the targeted sites and were in response to Saudi air raids on the territory the group controls in Yemen, including Sanaa.
He claimed there have been some 60 air attacks on Houthi-controlled territory in past 24 hours.

Hegseth says US blockade of Iranian ports remains ‘ironclad’
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says Washington’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz remains “ironclad”, and that Trump has “options” if Iran continues to “play games” with the vital sea passage.
Hegseth told reporters that the US controlled the strait and that Tehran had “literally gotten nothing through”, according to The Associated Press.
He urged Iran to “make the right choice”, saying: “If they don’t, the president is going to have all the options he needs on the table. But he is not going to let these things extend unnecessarily. He understands what the mission is, and we can get it done when called upon.”
Hegseth also reiterated Trump’s resolve to stop Iran from having a nuclear weapon, adding that it was a “vital national interest of the United States of America”.
“The message is very simple: Iran will never ever ever have a nuclear weapon. President Trump is hell-bent and determined to ensure that they do not; they will not,” Hegseth said.
