Iran cancelled its flights to Baghdad and Muscat as new US sanctions on Iran's aviation sector took effect, according to local media reports. Iranian authorities said they are negotiating with Iraqi and Omani counterparts to redirect affected flights or secure alternative arrangements.
Iranian flights to Baghdad and Muscat will be cancelled as of midnight, local media reported on Tuesday, as new US sanctions on Iran's aviation industry were set to come into force.
The Tasnim news agency cited a civil aviation spokesman as saying that "Baghdad and Muscat airports will no longer accept Iranian flights", though the authority was "negotiating so that flights whose destination is Baghdad can be redirected to [Iraq's] Najaf Airport".
Iran's ISNA news agency also reported the cancellations, and said negotiations with Oman were ongoing.
