Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented conditions to US envoy Steve Witkoff for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, demanding an immediate lift of the American naval blockade and the release of frozen Iranian assets. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, reflects Tehran's hardened stance as it continues to demand an end to conflicts on what it calls "resistance fronts."
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with US special envoy Steve Witkoff on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday and conveyed Iran's conditions for reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iran's IRIB, Araghchi told Witkoff that Tehran's demands included "the immediate lifting of the [US] naval blockade, the prompt payment of all Iranian assets that have been frozen, and an end to the war on all resistance fronts".
Trump has said US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff had spoken to mediators about a possible deal with Iran.
This follows a spokesperson for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps telling AFP that Iran's conditions for resuming negotiations with the US had "toughened" since the last round of talks.
