South Korea's presidential office clarified that talks between President Lee Jae-myung and French President Emmanuel Macron on the Strait of Hormuz focused on potential contributions to international security efforts, not military troop deployment. National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac also stated that Iran has sought explanations regarding reports on a possible South Korean role in the region.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung discussed the Strait of Hormuz with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, but the talks concerned possible contributions to international efforts to ensure security and freedom of navigation, not troop deployment, Seoul's presidential office said.
National security adviser Wi Sung-lac also said a review of South Korea's potential role was not linked to US investment talks and that Iran had sought explanations over reports on a possible South Korean role.
