**Dallas, Texas** – Trump, a former reality television personality, is no stranger to game-show-style pledges.
But on Wednesday, his remarks at the Republican National Convention in Dallas raised eyebrows as he appeared to hinge a cash prize on the outcome of the November midterm elections.
His speech set the stakes: If Republicans maintain control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, Trump said he would give all US adults a “$5,000 dividend”.
“If the Republicans win, you win with us,” he told the audience.

+ Vance and Trump are still to come. Both are expected to speak between 01:00 and 02:00 GMT, with Vance going first and Trump closing the convention.
+ Texas Senator Ted Cruz used his speech to warn about “Sharia law”, saying it was “fundamentally inconsistent with the Constitution”.
+ Michigan Senate candidate Mike Rogers went after his Democratic opponent, Abdul El-Sayed. Rogers linked El-Sayed to “radical” extremism and attacked him over his ties to left-wing streamer Hasan Piker, saying the two “attack America” and “excuse extremism.”
+ El-Sayed quickly hit back with an ad accusing Rogers of taking money from the pharmaceutical industry and voting against lower prescription drug prices.
+ Outside, protesters are demonstrating against Trump’s agenda. Reuters footage showed confrontations between pro- and anti-Trump demonstrators before police in riot gear moved in. At least two people were detained.

At least 2 detained as protesters gather outside Republican convention
Dozens of protesters have gathered outside the convention in Dallas, with at least two people detained as tensions flared between Trump’s supporters and opponents.
Protesters marched outside the American Airlines Center carrying signs opposing the war on Iran and Trump’s immigration crackdown, chanting: “Say it loud, say it clear, Donald Trump’s not welcome here!”
Reuters video showed anti-Trump and pro-Trump demonstrators pushing each other before police in riot gear moved in. Mounted police were also deployed.

Vance to talk fatherhood, Charlie Kirk in convention speech
Vance is expected to focus on fatherhood and his populist vision for the country at tonight’s convention, a source familiar with the speech told AFP.
Vance, regarded as a possible Republican presidential frontrunner for 2028, will also reflect on his close friend Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was assassinated exactly one year ago.
He is scheduled to speak just before Trump’s closing remarks.
According to AFP, Vance will draw on the mix of personal biography and populist politics that shaped his 2024 convention speech.
But instead of focusing on the difficult upbringing he chronicled in his book, Hillbilly Elegy, Vance is expected to discuss recently becoming a father for the fourth time with his wife, Usha, and his vision for the country’s future.

El-Sayed responds to Rogers’s attacks
Abdul El-Sayed has released a new advertisement in response to Mike Rogers’s blistering attacks at tonight’s convention.
The Democratic Senate candidate, a former health director in Michigan, claimed his Republican opponent’s “corruption” was harming the state’s residents.
“He’s taken more than $1M from Big Pharma, voted 19 times to keep prescription drug prices high, and even declared himself a ‘champion’ of the opioid industry,” El-Sayed said of Rogers in a post on social media.
The ad features people raising the same claims and calling on voters to send “Dr Abdul El-Sayed” to the Senate.
El-Sayed, who holds a medical degree, has publicly called himself a doctor, but was not granted a licence to practice medicine or treat patients. He earned a doctorate in public health from Oxford University.

Michigan’s Rogers blasts El-Sayed for ties to left-wing streamer
Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers of Michigan has launched some of his most direct attacks against his Democratic opponent, Abdul El-Sayed.
Rogers criticised El-Sayed for previous campaign appearances he made with left-wing streaming personality Hasan Piker.
“Abdul El-Sayed has chosen Hasan as his running mate,” Rogers said. “Together, they attack America. They excuse extremism. They treat our country like it’s the villain.”
El-Sayed, so far, has refused to repudiate comments from Piker, who has a history of inflammatory remarks, including some that have been called anti-Semitic.
“He’s a con man. I’m a law man,” Rogers said of his opponent.
