Iran offers to mediate talks between Saudi Arabia and Yemen

During an interview with Al Jazeera, Iran's president Masoud Pezeshkian spoke extensively about the conflict in Yemen and its regional repercussions, saying that Iran "doesn't believe Saudi Arabia and Yemen should fight, as they are both Muslims."

He added that Iran would mediate between the two countries: "We are prepared to sit down and help Saudi Arabia and Yemen resolve this issue."

Pezeshkian added that Iran only "empathises"with Yemen, failing to further detail on Iran's support of Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthis. "What happens in Yemen is not related to us," he said.

The conflict in Yemen reignited in July after a fragile ceasefire broke between the Yemeni Saudi-backed government and the Houthis, who control the capital Sanaa. Hundreds of people, mostly fighters, have died as a result of combat and over 100,000 Yemeni were internally displaced.
