Satellite imagery has revealed renewed activity at a classified military complex northeast of Tehran believed to host Iran's nuclear weapons development work. International security analysts suggest the increased vehicular and construction activity indicates Iran may be attempting to restore capabilities damaged in an Israeli strike last March.
The Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS) has reported increased activity at a classified complex known as “Mine-Clearing” (Min-Zeda’i) in northeast Tehran, citing new satellite imagery. Israel claims that portions of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear weapons development activities were conducted at this facility.
The institute reported that satellite imagery provided by Vantor Technologies in September and October reveals significant vehicular traffic and construction activity at the complex.
The facility was targeted in an Israeli strike on March 3, 2026, which destroyed several buildings and likely damaged underground sections. The new imagery indicates that, following debris removal, site cleanup, and hillside remediation, regular vehicular traffic to the complex has resumed. Excavation operations are also ongoing at one of the targeted impact sites.
According to the Institute for Science and International Security, the presence of passenger vehicles and trucks increased noticeably between early September and early October. Based on prior intelligence regarding the complex, the institute assessed that these new activities “may” indicate efforts by the Islamic Republic to restore a portion of the capabilities destroyed during the Israeli attack.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) previously claimed that a group of nuclear scientists was covertly working at this location on a key component of a nuclear weapons system. Citing public reports and statements from the IDF, the institute noted that activities at the site were likely connected to nuclear warhead research and development.
Turquzabad is the same location identified by Benjamin Netanyahu in 2018 as a “secret atomic warehouse.” International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors visited the site in 2019 and detected traces indicative of nuclear material or nuclear-contaminated equipment. Questions regarding the origin and location of this material and equipment have remained a central point of dispute between the IAEA and the Islamic Republic ever since.
The Islamic Republic has consistently denied seeking to develop nuclear weapons.
