Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy said it targeted four vessels involved in illegal oil transfers in the northern Gulf, which caught fire, while three other ships hit mines west of the Strait of Hormuz. It warned that the confrontation could extend to US bases in the region if the escalation continues.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said that four vessels involved in illegal oil transfers in the northern Persian Gulf were targeted by its forces on Wednesday, and caught fire as a result.

It added that three other vessels collided with mines west of the Strait of Hormuz.

"With this enormous national support, the IRGC Navy sailors continue to manage and control the Strait of Hormuz," it said in its statement, adding that US insistence on "inciting ships to pass through the illegally mined passage has increased maritime incidents day by day".

"The aggressive US army should know that if this trend continues, the scope of the confrontation will be extended to the aggressive bases in the region. This is a serious warning," the IRGC Navy said.
