The Jerusalem Governorate said that dozens of settlers broke into the mosque compound through the Moroccan Gate, wearing Jewish prayer shawls and performing Jewish religious rituals.
It added that the settlers intended to target the site's Islamic identity and its longstanding historical, religious and legal significance with a new religious reality.
