Yemen's Health Ministry warned on Wednesday of a worsening health and humanitarian crisis in the city of Taiz and called for lifting the Houthi siege. The ministry said more than 246,000 people in the city have lost access to essential health services.

The Yemeni Health Ministry warned on Wednesday against an escalating health and humanitarian crisis in the southwestern city Taiz and called for lifting the Houthi siege.

“246,711 people in Taiz have lost access to essential health services, including more than 186,000 children under the age of five and about 23,000 pregnant women,” according to a statement from the ministry.

“The ministry calls upon the United Nations, the World Health Organization, Unicef, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and donors to ensure the continuous and safe delivery of medicines, fuel, oxygen and medical supplies to Taiz,” it added.
