French President Emmanuel Macron held discussions with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani during Macron’s visit to Doha, regarding the situation in Iran, Gaza and Lebanon and the need for diplomacy to ensure regional stability.
In a joint statement, the leaders reaffirmed their “support for the two-state solution” in Palestine and Israel and emphasised the need to uphold agreements, including implementing the ceasefire, withdrawing Israeli forces, and facilitating the urgent, safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
They also emphasised the importance of maintaining an international presence to support the Lebanese government and to uphold the US-brokered trilateral framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
The two leaders “condemned Iranian military attacks against countries in the region which constitute a serious breach of international law” and reaffirmed their support for “efforts aimed at reaching a diplomatic solution to permanently address the threats posed by Iran, and in particular to ensure verifiably the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programme”.
