Former US President Barack Obama has criticised Donald Trump's policy in the war on Iran and the heavy toll it has taken on the United States. Obama said he never fired a missile and relied on diplomacy, arguing that the conflict has driven up oil prices.

Former US president Barack Obama has criticised Donald Trump for his policy in the war on Iran and the toll its had.

" I didn’t have to fire any missiles. I engaged in diplomacy," he said.

Refering to the toll of the war on Washington, Obama said: "Our allies and bases have been attacked. Americans have been killed. Hundreds of Americans have been wounded. We have run down our stock of missiles, making us more vulnerable, and Iran now has veto power over the Strait of Hormuz."

The fiormer American president added that this is the "reason why the price of oil is up".
