The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said an unknown projectile struck a crude oil tanker exiting the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire on board. The crew are reported safe, and authorities are investigating the incident.
A crude oil tanker was struck by an unknown projectile while completing an outbound transit of the Strait of Hormuz, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said on Friday.
The British navy-affiliated agency said it had received a report of the incident and that authorities were investigating.
It advised vessels to transit the Strait with caution.
The agency reported earlier that a vessel was hit by an unknown projectile 40 nautical miles south of Iran's Lavan Island, causing a fire on board.
The crew were reported safe and there was no immediate environmental impact, it said.
