China will step up scrutiny of malicious price competition, including cost investigations and price inspections of companies that engage in such practices, the State Administration for Market Regulation said at a State Council Information Office briefing on Sunday.

The regulator said it will accelerate revisions to the Price Law and study rules aimed at curbing dumping. Authorities said the goal is to shift competition away from price cuts and toward improving product quality.
