Crude price passes $90 a barrel after tit-for-tat US-Iran strikes
Oil prices continue to rise after the resumption of fighting in the Middle East.
Brent ⁠crude futures are up $1.18, or 1.3 percent, to $91.67 a barrel at 07:39 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate crude is up $1.27, or 1.48 percent, to $87.03.
“The tit-for-tat missile exchanges between the US and Iran bring validation to those who believe that even if not a ‘forever war’, this conflict will run and run,” said PVM analyst John Evans.
Efforts by mediators including Qatar and Oman to broker a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, ⁠which carried about one-fifth of global oil supplies before the war ⁠erupted in late February, have so far proven inconclusive.

‘Extraordinary amount of turnover’ for high-profile US military leaders
Mohamad Elmasry from the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies spoke to Al Jazeera about US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll’s resignation after just 18 months in the role.
“Driscoll didn’t like the sort of leadership approach employed by \[Pentagon chief] Pete Hegseth,” Elmasry said.
“He thought that Hegseth was kind of holding back the modernisation of the department, and it’s significant at a time of war \[on Iran] … I certainly think that this affects the way the US prosecutes the war on the ground.”
The war on Iran “demonstrates maybe more clearly than anything else that this has become a battle over the Strait of Hormuz”, he added.
The Iranians are “not going to give up their leverage over the Strait of Hormuz because they view it as a part of their deterrence going forward”, Elmasry said.

Israel orders hospital evacuation in Gaza during ‘unfolding’ attack
Israel’s military says it attacked several targets in the Gaza Strip area “with the aim of removing threats”.
Two vehicles have been struck by drone missiles, it said in a statement.
“The American field hospital has been ordered to evacuate due to the ongoing strikes. The incident is still unfolding and the situation remains highly volatile,” the army said.

Luxembourg declines to renew Israel bonds approval

Luxembourg is not renewing authorisation for the issuance of Israeli bonds since it expired, leaving Israel with an uncertain future over its ability to borrow via investors in European markets.
Last month, Luxembourg’s Finance Minister Gilles Roth told media it was decided in May not to renew approval for the bond prospectus beyond its August 31 expiry date.
Israel bonds issued in the European Union raise about $2.5bn a year. Focus on the bonds held by EU countries has intensified as Israeli attacks on Lebanon, Gaza, and the occupied West Bank continue.

‘Chaotic’ situation in Gaza City after intense Israeli attacks

Just this moment, the sky in Gaza was partially cleared of drones, allowing ambulances to reach the injured and killed.
For 35 minutes, there were nonstop attacks involving drones, three of them hovering at a dangerously low level.
This is one of the most densely populated areas of western Gaza City, with many displaced Palestinians setting up their tents on sidewalks or in displacement camps. The area has a field hospital and a preschool, and both were evacuated. All this happened while people were at these locations during the attack.
Security personnel on the ground say they spotted a group of Israeli special forces who got into a direct exchange of fire. But the aerial coverage was so intense. The situation was very chaotic.
It is unclear how many people have been injured. We were able to count 13 attacks in the area directed at security personnel or anyone who approached.

EU’s Kallas says Hormuz diplomatic efforts have produced ‘no results’
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas says diplomatic efforts over the Strait of Hormuz are continuing but have so far failed to produce a breakthrough.
“The freedom of navigation needs to be respected. The diplomatic efforts are still ongoing, but no results at the moment,” Kallas said ahead of an informal meeting of EU defence ministers in Wicklow, Ireland.
“For us it is important that there are no tolls, no fees for these routes that have been open before.”
Kallas said ministers will also discuss a possible European mission to support the Lebanese armed forces.

Israel launches new attacks on Gaza
Israeli drones dropped a large number of munitions on the al-Kateeba district west of Gaza City, Al Jazeera’s correspondent reports.
At least 10 explosions occurred in the area. Sources at al-Shifa Hospital say casualties are arriving.
Meanwhile, in the southern Gaza Strip, there are reports of ongoing clashes in the city of Khan Younis near the American Hospital.
